Transmaze Technologies is a Kolkata, India based IT company founded by Rituparna Mukherjee. While it’s registered head office is in the beautiful eastern Indian city with colonial heritage, the business has rapidly expanded to other metropolitans of India.
It all started with the formation of a group called Passion4Freedom at around 2007, an initiative to implement open source for use in West Bengal Govt offices. The team at Passion4Freedom was working with West Bengal Govt officials at Institute of Open Technology and Applications and various universities such as Kalyani University to propagate the adoption of open source solutions. By 2008, Passion4Freedom also produced a custom linux distribution for use in West Bengal schools, for teaching computers to school students. The distribution known as ADMOS was the smallest ubuntu based Linux distro that could boot up as live CD and could be installed on computer hard disk. The OS was mere 300 mb with all functionalities. This size was crucial as at the time, internet speed to download larger software used to be a challenge.
As the Govt changed in 2011, some ongoing engagements did get stalled for the time.
In 2012, Rituparna Mukherjee, a founding member of the Passion4Freedom group, founded Study9 as one of the earliest ed-tech initiatives for advanced IT training from India. Study9 focused on teaching how to use various open-source automation tools in large businesses. Study9 has been featured in several magazines such as higher education review or business connect, and Rituparna Mukherjee has been recognized as one of the leading women entrepreneurs by leading publications.
In the same year of 2012, as an avid travel enthusiast herself, she also started building a travel advisory blog TripLizard.com, which beautifully blossomed into a travel forum.
While Study9.com has been doing strong business since then, around in 2013, Rituparna noticed the need for digitizing the local businesses in and around Kolkata. Many of these traditional mom and pop shops did not have websites and registration on popular directory systems. And due to that, these small businesses suffered losses against new internet companies. Spreading the benefits of internet to them was necessary for the survival of these small businesses, and with that mission, Spread Internet was founded.
As a local shop for making websites, SpreadInternet.com has quite a few clients in Kolkata city where opensource php-mysql based websites were made for the local businesses either free of cost or at a cost, depending on the kind of website required.
Study9 meanwhile continued to grow in B2C and B2B space, bagging prestigious clients such as Oracle, TCS, HCL, Nokia, Tibco and even India Govt offices such as RBI’s IDRBT. In B2C space, it crossed across oceans and gained clients from US, UK, UAE, Europe, Australia, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and various other countries.
In 2019, Rituparna converted her passion for travel into a real business as she launched XMyTrip.com – a single website where one can Xplore Xciting Xperiences all across the world. It has those awesome blogs ported over from TripLizard and also offered complete end to end trip planning – starting from booking flights to the car pick up and drop for airports, booking hotels and activities – everything under one single platform. The custom packages are extremely competitive compared to market.
However, unfortunately the world was hit with COVID19 in the same year of 2019 and travel bans around the world in early 2020, put a stop to the plans of XMyTrip. It also put a full stop to expansion of Study9 in China, a deal that was almost made before Covid had hit.
As Covid19 made the world forget the offices and barred people from meeting each other in person, it also stopped schools. Teachers were struggling to use the complex web meeting systems created for corporate IT people, to conduct their virtual classes as schools moved to that format. In the mission to make it easier for such teachers, the team launched EasyWebMeeting – a SaaS solution for web conferences that worked just from within browsers with just a link that works both on desktop and mobile phones. It provided secure audio/video conferencing, screensharing, whiteboarding, chat and recording features. And to make it work, teachers and students had to do nothing but to click the link to see each other. It was offered for free to schools when it was launched. Now it is offered at an attractive price to corporates.
Study9’s classroom sessions also had to be paused in 2020. In 2020 though, 9demy was launched to provide a complete online experience of training. While Study9 has always been about corporate classroom training alongside online classes, 9demy is focused on B2C online training only. It is built with state of the art online learning management systems, student community management system and a virtual classroom system that works best for the online training format. The rich experience of Study9 team proved to be helpful while designing the UX of 9demy.
